How to Reach Bologna

See the map to reach the Observatory either by car, train or plane.

by car

Bologna is a crossroad both for rail and car transportation. It is connected to Milan by FreeWay A1, to Rome by A1, to Rimini by A14, and to Venice by A13. Once arrived on the Bologna outer BeltWay (Tangenziale), take exit 7 (Stalingrado), and follow the Centro signs. At the intersection with the inner beltway (Vle Masini/Berti-Pichat), turn left around the old gate, and left again on Via Ranzani after 300m.

You also can use the interactive google map

by train

Bologna is the major node of the Italian Railway System ( Ferrovie dello Stato - FF.SS.), and is connected to all the most important towns (see the schedule of the most important trains). From the railway station (Stazione Centrale, Piazzale Medaglie d'Oro) you catch the Bus n. 32, the third stop is the nearest to the Observatory along Vle Perti-Pichat.

by plane

The Bologna airport is daily connected with most european large cities. The airport is very close to the Bologna municipal borders and is located in the North-West area. You can:

* Take a taxi. Travel time is about 15 min depending on traffic (expecially in the rush hours the beltway can be very crowded). It will cost some 20 Euro. There are two taxi company COTABO and CAT-BOLOGNA

* Take the shuttle (AirBus-BLQ). You can buy the ticket directly from the driver, and it will cost 5.00 Euro. The Bus will take you to the Railway Station.

Low cost companies usually fly to the [Forli L. Ridolfi Airport]. From there you can reach Bologna by train ([timetables here]) and taxi (5+10 Euros) or by bus ([timetables here]) in approximately one hour. Another option for low cost companies is the [Pisa G. Galilei Airport], but from there you can reach Bologna only by train ([timetables here]) and it takes approximately 3 hours (and 20 Euros).
